An itinerary that visits the heart of Lençóis Maranhenses, in two days and one night. Departure from Barreirinhas, via the Preguiças river, visit the Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses circuit, also visit the village of Mandacaru and its postcard, Farol das Preguiças, before arriving at Atins.
Inside the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, the itinerary visits the Baixa Grande oasis, one of the most preserved places in the Brazilian desert and the Lagoa Bonita region, without comment the most beautiful sunset in our destination, at the end of the second day the participants return to Barreirinhas.
GEOGRAPHY AND LOCATION
The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, has a territorial area of 1,550 square km, is located in three municipalities in the state of Maranhão. Two degrees south of the equator, its territory is divided between the municipalities of Barreirinhas with 53% of the area, the municipality of Santo Amaro with 36% of the area, and the municipality of Primeira Cruz with 11% of the area. The park was created on June 10, 1981. Its geological age is around 400,000 years, the desert moves according to the direction of the wind, from East to West, somewhere between 10 and 50 meters per year. Its lagoons come from the rain that floods the Maranhão water table. Between May and June, some lagoons reach very high water levels, which causes the dune barriers to break, creating a burst of running water that heads towards the ocean, thus ending the life and beauty of some flooded regions. . The organism is ephemeral and provides us with different landscapes at different times throughout the year.
ABOUT THE LOCAL CLIMATE
Due to our proximity to the equator, around 300km to the south, we do not have a wide range of temperatures, during the day around 33° degrees, during the night around 27° degrees. It rains between January and May, strong winds between July and November.

INVESTMENT VALUE

Boarding takes place at 8:30 in the morning, the tour along the Preguiças River is done in boats with a hoopoe engine, the river climb is done in the traditional way in collective boats for up to 10 people. Participants visit Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses and monkey beach along the course of the river, wild animals seen in the mangrove trees on the banks of the Preguiças river.
Then the tour continues along the river until the next stop, the village of Mandacaru, participants can visit the Farol das Preguiças located in that village. Administered by the Brazilian Navy, visits are free and authorized during scheduled hours.
In Mandacaru, participants can also appreciate the community-based tourism work carried out by the village community, the natives of the beach region in the village of Mandacaru produce handicrafts made from buriti fiber, they also produce ice cream made from natural fruits from the region, among many others. handmade work, a good opportunity to take a souvenir from Lençóis Maranhenses, since the area we visit during our crossing is a federal natural conservation unit, we cannot remove anything from inside the park other than the trash we produce and the trash we eventually we found. Mandacaru is the place to purchase souvenirs.
Afterwards, we headed to the village of Mandacaru and headed to Atins beach, our lunch and bathing spot at the mouth of the river, where the river water meets the sea water.
At 2 pm the group boards the 4x4 that takes us to the Bandeira dune, where we begin our walk at 3 pm.
Our walk stretch is eight kilometers between the Bandeira dune and the Baixa Grande oasis, a trail over dunes and lagoons along the way, after a technical stop to dive in the lagoons, being about a kilometer from the objective, we chose the dune highest in the region to watch the sunset.
In Baixa Grande, we settled in the home of the region's natives, the families provided all the necessary services for our stay, shower facilities, places to recharge electronic devices, modern bathrooms, food and drinks.
