This itinerary follows the traditional five-day route of Lençóis Maranhenses, however, like all other itineraries, there is always something we can innovate. On this route we offer a day stopping at the Baixa Grande oasis, thus leaving the participant closer to the visited environment, more familiar with the culture, and above all, resting to make two great days, the fourth and fifth day, which ends with the Kayak descent on the Alegre River in Santo Amaro do Maranhão, starting in Betânia and ending at the Sol de Amaro restaurant in the center of Santo Amaro do Maranhão.

GEOGRAPHY AND LOCATION

The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, has a territorial area of 1,550 square km, is located in three municipalities in the state of Maranhão. Two degrees south of the equator, its territory is divided between the municipalities of Barreirinhas with 53% of the area, the municipality of Santo Amaro with 36% of the area, and the municipality of Primeira Cruz with 11% of the area. The park was created on June 10, 1981. Its geological age is around 400,000 years, the desert moves according to the direction of the wind, from East to West, somewhere between 10 and 50 meters per year. Its lagoons come from the rain that floods the Maranhão water table. Between May and June, some lagoons reach very high water levels, which causes the dune barriers to break, creating a burst of running water that heads towards the ocean, thus ending the life and beauty of some flooded regions. . The organism is ephemeral and provides us with different landscapes at different times throughout the year.

ABOUT THE LOCAL CLIMATE

Due to our proximity to the equator, around 300km to the south, we do not have a wide range of temperatures, during the day around 33° degrees, during the night around 27° degrees. It rains between January and May, strong winds between July and November.

BEST TIME TO DO THIS TOUR

As it is a long itinerary, we recommend this itinerary between April and August, when the water in the lakes and rivers are voluminous, however, it is possible all year round. Of course, after August, when the waters have been drying for two months, the volume of lakes will be smaller and the rivers will be lower. We speak because, throughout our experience as operators, we are always observing our environment, in order to be translators of good experiences for the participants.

For those who have time on their vacation, but don't enjoy exercising or training, every day, let's say hiking, which is our case. This itinerary is for those who have time to enjoy Lençóis Maranhenses more, but are looking for a more intense experience, for those who want to appreciate nature, meditate, exercise their brain and not just their body, as is the case with shorter experiences.
