The 100% Ecological itinerary, provides the participant with a complete experience in Lençóis Maranhenses, there are eight days of hiking starting in Barreirinhas, visiting famous points and new places in the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. The main objective is to immerse the participant in nature, without the use of motor vehicles, thus making the tour relevant in an ecological way, more respectful of the environment.

GEOGRAPHY AND LOCATION

The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, has a territorial area of 1,550 square km, is located in three municipalities in the state of Maranhão. Two degrees south of the equator, its territory is divided between the municipalities of Barreirinhas with 53% of the area, the municipality of Santo Amaro with 36% of the area, and the municipality of Primeira Cruz with 11% of the area. The park was created on June 10, 1981. Its geological age is around 400,000 years, the desert moves according to the direction of the wind, from East to West, somewhere between 10 and 50 meters per year. Its lagoons come from the rain that floods the Maranhão water table. Between May and June, some lagoons reach very high water levels, which causes the dune barriers to break, creating a burst of running water that heads towards the ocean, thus ending the life and beauty of some flooded regions. . The organism is ephemeral and provides us with different landscapes at different times throughout the year.

ABOUT THE LOCAL CLIMATE

Due to our proximity to the equator, around 300km to the south, we do not have a wide range of temperatures, during the day around 33° degrees, during the night around 27° degrees. It rains between January and May, strong winds between July and November.

BEST TIME TO DO THIS TOUR

This itinerary can be done throughout the year, however, we recommend the period between April and June as the best time of the year, in relation to Lençóis Maranhenses. The indicated period is during the transition from the rains to the dry period where the lake levels are still high and the sun begins to appear.

ITINERARY, BARREIRINHAS, LAGOA AZUL.

We started our ecological trek in Barreirinhas from the city's main square, Praça do Trabalhador. In our first section there are around seven kilometers of trail inside Restinga, the forest corresponding to 30% of Lençóis Maranhenses occupation. Our overnight stay is in the homes of the natives of that region.

The expedition watches the sunset in the Blue Lagoon region.

ITINERARY, LAGOA AZUL, PONTA DO MANGUE.

Our second day begins after breakfast, our stretch takes place over the dunes, a total of thirteen kilometers between the Lagoa Azul region and the Ponta do Mangue community. In the region visited, the community has held the Mirim festival for around 40 years, a fruit tree known as the desert grape.

Ponta do Mangue is the largest community within Lençóis Maranhenses.

ITINERARY, PONTA DO MANGUE, LAGOA BONITA.

Our third day, we set off from Ponta do Mangue to the Lagoa Bonita region, about twenty-one kilometers, our biggest challenge in these eight days of adventure in Lençóis Maranhenses, a diagonal cut through the heart of the desert. Along the way wild landscapes, lagoons and dunes. On this day we will experience the 360° view of the desert. Enjoy. Our overnight stay takes place in the natives' houses at the base of Lagoa Bonita.

ITINERARY, VILLAGE OF MUCAMBO, OASIS BAIXA GRANDE.

On this day, we leave very early, at four in the morning, it will be about fifteen kilometers north towards the primitive area of Lençóis Maranhenses. Our expected arrival time is ten in the morning, with a stay in one of the four families in the oasis. In the afternoon, a small raid around the oasis, visiting local houses in the region, with the aim of cultural exchange. Then, to end the day, a good place for the sunset.

LAGOONS AND DUNES TO ENJOY THE SUNSET

ITINERARY, OASIS BAIXA GRANDE, OASIS QUEIMADA DOS BRITOS

On this day, we take part in one of the most famous trails in Lençóis Maranhenses. The stretch between two oases. Baixa Grande and Queimada dos Britos. There are approximately eleven kilometers of trail over dunes and lagoons. We visited and stayed in the homes of natives of the region. In the afternoon, set off inside the oasis to explore the region. At the end of the day, the moment of sunset.

THE QUEIMADA DOS BRITOS OASIS IS MADE UP OF ABOUT 15 FAMILIES.

ITINERARY, OASÍS QUEIMADA BRITOS, POVOADO RANCHARIA.

In this stretch of around fourteen kilometers, we move away from the primitive zone, returning to the south side of the dune field in Lençóis Maranhenses. In the village of Rancharia, we have a sequence of connected lagoons that we call "bicudo gordo lagoon", a local fish that is abundant in the region. Perhaps the largest lagoon in the national park to date. At the end of the day, the moment of sunset.

ITINERARY, POVOADO RANCHARIA, BETÂNIA, SANTO AMARO.

Right after breakfast at four in the morning, our destination heads towards the city of Santo Amaro do Maranhão, with an anticipated strategic stop for lunch in the village of Betânia, approximately nine kilometers before the end point. At the end, the walk heads to the city center where the next destination is the responsibility of the participant.
