The Kayaks and Camping itinerary is a charming paddle, between crystal clear lagoons and connected one after the other, making the experience of paddling in the desert unique and unforgettable. The event takes place in June when the sun is out and the lakes are at their maximum water levels.
GEOGRAPHY AND LOCATION
The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, has a territorial area of 1,550 square km, is located in three municipalities in the state of Maranhão. Two degrees south of the equator, its territory is divided between the municipalities of Barreirinhas with 53% of the area, the municipality of Santo Amaro with 36% of the area, and the municipality of Primeira Cruz with 11% of the area. The park was created on June 10, 1981. Its geological age is around 400,000 years, the desert moves according to the direction of the wind, from East to West, somewhere between 10 and 50 meters per year. Its lagoons come from the rain that floods the Maranhão water table. Between May and June, some lagoons reach very high water levels, which causes the dune barriers to break, creating a burst of running water that heads towards the ocean, thus ending the life and beauty of some flooded regions. . The organism is ephemeral and provides us with different landscapes at different times throughout the year.
ABOUT THE LOCAL CLIMATE
Due to our proximity to the equator, around 300km to the south, we do not have a wide range of temperatures, during the day around 33° degrees, during the night around 27° degrees. It rains between January and May, strong winds between July and November.
BEST TIME TO DO THIS TOUR
We consider the months of June and July to be the best time, exactly at the transition from the floods to the dry period in Lençóis Maranhenses.
REASONS TO TAKE THIS TOUR
As it is the only paddle between lakes and dunes in Lençóis Maranhenses, combined with camping on a full moon night.

ITINERARY, BARREIRINHAS, LAGOA DA COSTA LESTE, CAMPING SITE.
The event takes place in June, we start in Barreirinhas, we have lunch in a community close to the dunes where we begin our epic paddle between lagoons and dunes. Our paddle has a route of approximately four kilometers, and the camping site is chosen by the organization team, where when we arrive everything is ready. We watched the sunset and moonrise, spent the night in tents on the dunes.
Sunrise is a must.
