THE SELF-GUIDED KAYAK TRAIL was designed to serve capable and experienced adventurers in natural environments. At Costa Leste EcoAventura, we organize transfer logistics and equipment rental and all the support offered by our work team, so that participants can have an authentic experience of Rio Preguiças.
GEOGRAPHY AND LOCATION
The Preguiças River originates in the city of Anapurus in Maranhão, runs for around 160km until reaching Barreirinhas and forms part of the PERIÁ river basin. In Barreirinhas he headed towards the mouth of Atins beach with another 40km of descent. The Preguiça River is influenced by the tide, rising and falling every six hours, changing its current direction. Fed by other smaller rivers, since Barreirinhas it has its greatest width, reaching almost 200 meters wide in some regions. Sandbanks form along its course, making the descent more fun for those in kayaks, with the possibility of stopping at many artificial beaches created by the day's tide.
ABOUT THE LOCAL CLIMATE
Due to our proximity to the equator, around 300km to the south, we do not have a wide range of temperatures, during the day around 33° degrees, during the night around 27° degrees. It rains between January and May, strong winds between July and November.
BEST TIME TO DO THIS TOUR
The self-guided trail can be done at any time of the year, however, we believe that the period between January and June are the best times for this activity. Due to the rain, not the wind, the waters of the river are slower and calmer. Plus the temperature is more pleasant.
REASONS TO TAKE THIS TOUR
There are several, but we will mention the ones that we consider most important, first: you will row alone, with your group on a wild river, this is experience after experience of solving natural and day-to-day challenges. Alone in nature, we learn a lot about ourselves. Nature is beautiful, and being able to challenge it alone makes us very different from others. Connection with nature is supreme on this self-guided trail.

In the early hours of the first day, the team picks up participants from their accommodation and transports them to the paddling point, with all equipment rented and contracted.
For this section, approximately 20km between Barreirinhas and Pequenos Lençóis, a section with stops after the second hour of paddling.
