Roraima is an immense and very peculiar geological formation over two billion years old, which makes it one of the oldest geologies on the planet. It is part of a set of
6 unique mountains in the world, distinguished by their very high vertical walls, and their table-shaped top.
On the trip, you will enjoy walking through an immense savanna until you reach the vertical wall of Tepui, almost 1,000 meters high. From there, the climb begins via a ramp
of loose rocks from the wall, until reaching the summit that some describe as reaching another planet, where you can see carnivorous plants, endemic animals unique in the world, and
huge rock formations shaped by water and wind over the centuries.

GEOGRAPHY AND LOCATION

The area at the top is divided between Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil. Venezuela covers 80% (24.8km²) of this area, Guyana 15% (4.65km²) and Brazil 5% (1.55km²). In a total of 31 km².

ABOUT THE LOCAL CLIMATE

At the Río Tek and Base camp the temperature can vary between 28C° and 12C°, while at the top temperatures can vary between 24C° and 1C°. It is recommended to bring sleeping bags for 1C° climates and thermal sleeping clothes. Also bring rain protection backpacks and a waterproof poncho or jacket.

BEST TIME TO DO THIS TOUR

August to May are considered the best months for climbing, with drought prevailing during these months. However, you need to be prepared for rain, the local climate is very variable at any time of the year there can be rain and it will always be very humid.

REASONS TO TAKE THIS TOUR

On the way to Roraima, unique landscapes of La Gran Sabana and the Tepuys Roraima and Kukenan are present, but the true lost world is at the top, a unique ecosystem unlike anything you've ever seen, landscapes, native flora and fauna, huge rocks with effects of erosion and weathering (decomposition of minerals and rocks that occurs when these materials come into contact with the atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere). WHAT TO BRING FOR THIS TOUR

• Waterproof or resistant poncho, not too heavy.

• Rain backpack cover.

• Thermal insulation

• Sleeping bag resistant to low temperatures (5 C approx.)

• Flashlight and spare batteries.

• Light clothing for eight days (only what is necessary).

• Include warm clothing and thick socks that extend beyond the edge of your boots when walking (more than four pairs).

•don't wear jeans. Wear shorts or synthetic sweatpants (they are lighter and dry faster).

• Swimming suit and a small towel. Preferably microfiber.

• Mountain boots or a pair of sports shoes and trekking sandals. (Optional: CROCS)

• Toothpaste and toothbrush, blue soap (it is biodegradable), wet wipes, toilet paper, lip balm, ear plugs.

SANTA ELENA, RIO TEK
Departure from Santa Elena de Uairén. After breakfast, we will follow a dirt road that will take us through rivers and savannahs to Paray Tepuy de Roraima (Pemón indigenous village located 1400 meters above sea level). On this 2-hour tour we will be able to appreciate and photograph the Tepuyan chain formed by Roraima. Kukenan, Yuruani, Wadaka, Karaurin, Ilu and Triamen Tepuy. In Paraytepuy, indigenous porters are waiting for us who will carry all our food, tents and kitchen equipment. The path starts downhill where we cross a ravine and a forest where the Bellbird lives, an indigenous species much sought after by bird watchers. Then a steep climb will take us to see an extensive savannah that we must cross until we reach the Tek River, where we camp in tents.

Hiking time: 5 hours / Height: 1,050 m.a.s.l.

BASE COAT

Today we got up early to enjoy the sunrise with Kukenan and Roraima already very close. After an energizing swim in the river and a delicious breakfast, we prepared to continue the walk. After 30 minutes of travel we crossed the Kukenan River and continued with a slight climb and little by little we began to see details of the Roraima wall and the Maverick formation. At the end of the route we find a series of hills that welcome us to Base Camp.
After lunch we will have time to take a cold dip in the river and find out where tomorrow's climb will be.

Hiking time: 4 hours / Height: 1,870 m.a.s.l.

TOP
The climb to the tepui will be made along the route of Im Thurn and Perkins, who in 1884 managed to reach the summit for the first time. On this climb we will be able to observe unique plants such as the large Brocchinia cordylinoides (from the same family as the pineapple) and Stegolepis guianensis (with high nutritional content) as we climb through a dense forest helping us with the roots and trunks of the trees. To reach the final ramp we will have to cross the waterfall described by the first explorers and the prize will be to appreciate the gigantic tree ferns that are more than 300 years old. Upon reaching the summit, the rock formations covered in a black fungus and sculpted by water and wind into multiple shapes will transport us to an imaginary world only comparable to the lunar surface. Once at the summit we walked another 30 minutes until we reached the so-called Hotels, rock formations that give us protection against rain and wind. Once the tents are set up, we can explore the jacuzzi area.

HOTEL QUATI

After breakfast we will head to the Brazilian side of Mount Roraima, walking along much of its surface. We will walk with all our equipment passing obstacles, rivers and rocks that will also offer us incredible views. The route will be approximately 18 kilometers long, but with surfaces with little verticality, which will allow us to maintain a constant pace and advance greater distances.

We will have time to stop, rest, have lunch and take some memorable photos of this land that seems from another planet. We will arrive at a hotel called Coatí, because the first explorers of this area managed to spot one of these little animals. Let's hope that during this walk we can witness these little inhabitants of the top. We will set up camp and have dinner to rest.

LAKE GLADYS

We will start the day to begin the route with just our attack backpack and visit the Proa de Roraima viewpoint. During the tour we will have the opportunity to visit the incredible Lake Gladys, which has a diameter of approximately 16 km and was named thanks to a curious story that tells that during one of the first expeditions to this area, the leader gave him the honor of Name this lake named after one of its members for being the first to spot it and he decided to name it after his girlfriend Gladys.

Proa de Roraima We will continue the walk through valleys and rivers with very striking colors until we reach the La Proa de Roraima viewpoint where we can observe the Esquilo jungle. On this day we will return to the Coatí hotel where they will be waiting for us with the entire camp set up and dinner, where we can rest after a good day of walking. Note: This trek does not include a visit to the bow tip, for this you will need authorization, rope handling and climbing.

TRIPLE POINT, MIT AND VALLEY OF CRYSTALS

We will get up very early and after breakfast we will begin a walk from the Coatí hotel to the south side with all our equipment, first passing through the largest Tepuy Crystal Valley. Then, we will walk to Ponto Triple to observe the Geographical Landmark, an area that divides Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana. Next, we will visit the moat, a cave where we can take a delicious bath in ice-cold water (the coldest in the tepui) and have lunch in this place.

When we are ready, we will continue our approximately 4-hour walk to return to the Venezuelan side until we reach one of the rock formation hotels, set up camp and rest.

VENTANA / ABISM/ JACUZZIS/ MAVERICK Depending on the time of arrival on the south side of the tepuy and the weather, we can go out and see the best landscapes. Among the most important points are the Jacuzzis, rocky water formations in green and orange colors, we can also visit the Maverick which is the highest point in Roraima

The window to the Kukenan tepuy, which is the neighboring tepuy of Roraima. In addition to strolling and enjoying the natural gardens with extraordinary flora and fauna on top of a tepuy.

RIVER TEK
Time to return to civilization. After breakfast, the descent begins around 8am. It takes approximately 4 hours to descend to the base, with a 40-minute stop to rest and eat, then we continue to the Río Tek camp. After all the hiking, this will be the most pleasant campsite, as the mountains are no longer cold or humid and the starry sky will dazzle. The rest of the day will be spent showering and resting.
