The Circuito Barreirinhas route explores the dune region in the municipality, in its area belonging to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, which by the way is a very spatial area, vast and with large dunes forming surreal landscapes. The itinerary also includes the Rio Preguiça circuit, the city's first tour. Participants also experience an overnight stay in the Baixa Grande oasis, as well as visiting new places such as the Mucambo community, which has recently opened its doors to adventure and community-based tourism.
GEOGRAPHY AND LOCATION
The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, has a territorial area of 1,550 square km, is located in three municipalities in the state of Maranhão. Two degrees south of the equator, its territory is divided between the municipalities of Barreirinhas with 53% of the area, the municipality of Santo Amaro with 36% of the area, and the municipality of Primeira Cruz with 11% of the area. The park was created on June 10, 1981. Its geological age is around 400,000 years, the desert moves according to the direction of the wind, from East to West, somewhere between 10 and 50 meters per year. Its lagoons come from the rain that floods the Maranhão water table. Between May and June, some lagoons reach very high water levels, which causes the dune barriers to break, creating a burst of running water that heads towards the ocean, thus ending the life and beauty of some flooded regions. . The organism is ephemeral and provides us with different landscapes at different times throughout the year.
ABOUT THE LOCAL CLIMATE
Due to our proximity to the equator, around 300km to the south, we do not have a wide range of temperatures, during the day around 33° degrees, during the night around 27° degrees. It rains between January and May, strong winds between July and November.
BEST TIME TO DO THIS TOUR
This tour is recommended for every year, especially between April and September, the best time to do this crossing is when the Negro River and the Macacos River are forming beautiful landscapes in Lençóis Maranhenses.

INVESTMENT VALUE

The tour starts in Barreirinhas at 8:30 am, with a collective boat trip along the Preguiças river, making technical stops at Praia das Vassouras, Mandacaru village and Caburé beach for a lunch break and swimming in the sea.
Then from Atins, the group continues in 4x4 vehicles to the Bandeira dune region, where the group begins the six-kilometer walk to the Baixa oasis, the site of the first overnight stay on the Barreirinhas Circuit.
In Baixa Grande, the group stays at Dona Odete and Mr. Moacir's house, they have the necessary facilities for our stay.
After dinner, free night.
